Deep Dish Dungeon Iron Rods: Sources and Crafting Priorities

At a glance

Look for ready-made Iron Rods in rooms and chests. For a renewable source, build a camp Smelter with 5 Clay and 5 Scrap Metal, then use Scrap Metal and Coal to produce rods.

Find rods before you can smelt them

Search rooms and chests as you explore. Some goo piles can also provide rods, but a particular pile should not be treated as a guaranteed drop.

Keep early rods for stations and repairs before turning them all into other components.

This is a list of individual costs, rather than a total for the whole dungeon.

Set up a camp Smelter

The Smelter itself costs 5 Clay + 5 Scrap Metal. Harvest Clay with a Pickaxe, then build the station and supply Scrap Metal and Coal for rods. Follow the quantities shown by your Smelter’s interface when loading it.

The camp Smelter and the large key-casting forge serve different tasks. The Jaguar Door’s 5 Coal + 8 Scrap Metal + Mold recipe belongs to the large forge; it is not an Iron Rod recipe.
